Queensland Museum South Bank seeks to provide equitable access to all visitors using our services, facilities and resources.

Access to the building

All entrances and areas in Queensland Museum South Bank are wheelchair accessible. Additional facilities include:

  • Parking spaces designated for people with a disability.
  • Lifts operating from the car park to the Level 2 main entrance.
  • Connecting lifts to other levels of the building.
  • Disabled toilet facilities located on Level 0, Level 1 and Level 2.

Staff at Level 2, Sciencentre and Inquiry Centre reception can assist all visitors with inquiries regarding information for people with individual needs.

Access to adaptive technology

Queensland Museum South Bank offers a range of adaptive technology devices to enable people with a disability to access the Museum's resource. If required, staff are available to provide brief equipment familiarisation. Equipment currently available:

  • MaggyLamp: table-top magnifier with built-in light, available at the Inquiry Centre reception, Level 3.
  • Magnifying glasses: available at the Reception/Cloak Room, Level 2 and at the Sciencentre Reception, Level 1.
  • MicroEye: table-top magnifier with screen, available at the Inquiry Centre reception, Level 3.

There are written representations of the Museum's audio visual presentations available for use from Level 2 reception and Inquiry Centre reception. Interpretation Services are also available for further verbal programs. Please see the information about Interpretation Services on this page.

Wheelchair access and availability

Wheelchairs are available for use within the Museum from the Reception/Cloak Room on Level 2. They are free of charge and subject to availability.

Seating is provided around the Museum, and seating/eating areas are provided at the Courtyard Café and at ENERGEX Playasaurus Place, Level 0.

Allocated space for wheelchairs and prams is provided for all public programs, including public lectures, workshops, performances and activities.

Public Payphones

Two public payphones with variable volume control and induction loop are available on Level 0 and Level 2. A TTY keyboard for use with the public payphones is also available on Level 2.

Interpretation Services

Queensland Museum South Bank will endeavour to provide Australian Sign Language Interpretation Services (Auslan) for all public programs when requested. Public programs include public lectures, workshops, science theatre shows and other performances and presentations. This is available to schools and groups or individuals.

In order to access this service we ask that a request is made at least two weeks prior to the date required. This request, providing your name and contact details, date and time and public program for which the service is requested, can be made by:

Exhibitions, programs and resources

Exhibitions and programs are multi-modal and support a range of senses providing visual experiences, auditory experiences and tactile experiences. Exhibitions and programs utilise a range of objects (both artefacts and specimens) and props/materials that are touchable. Most of these items are not attached and can be bought to the visitor or are within physical access of a visitor in a wheelchair. The Sciencentre on Level 1 supports visual, auditory and tactile experiences.
