Location
Queensland Museum South Bank is on the corner of Grey & Melbourne Streets, South Brisbane, in the same cultural precinct as the State Library of Queensland, the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art.

Opening hours
9.30am to 5pm daily. Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday. Open from 1.30pm ANZAC Day.

Average length of visit
This depends on the exhibitions and centres you wish to visit, along with any booked Student Programs. We recommend allocating between 1˝ and 2 hours to view our exhibitions. Allow time for a break before or after your visit.

Group sizes

Getting there

  • By bus - set down in: Grey Street outside the DINOSAUR GARDEN, Stanley St Tunnel or Stanley Place. Bus parking is located along Montague Road or near Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
  • By train - get off at South Brisbane station and cross the road at the Grey and Melbourne Streets intersection.
  • By car - car park entry is via the Stanley St tunnel or Grey St. The car park is a pay on entry facility.

Booking your visit
Bookings are essential for all groups and schools.

Cost
All Student Programs are charged sessions for which you can choose to be invoiced. If paying by cheque please make payable to Queensland Museum Public Programs. All student programs charges include GST.

The Sciencentre and some travelling exhibitions are charged exhibitions for which you can be invoiced. If paying by cheque please make payable to Queensland Museum South Bank. Exhibitions charges DO NOT incur GST.

Arriving
Please arrive 15 minutes before any booked charged session or exhibition, including the Sciencentre, so cloaking, payment and toilet needs can be facilitated. During this time, your group will receive a welcome and orientation by a Visitor Services Officer.

  • If your itinerary begins with an exhibition (temporary or permanent) or a booked Student Session in the Museum please enter through the Dinosaur Garden in Grey Street.
  • If your itinerary begins with the Sciencentre please enter through the Sciencentre (drop off at Grey Street and walk around the corner to the Sciencentre entrance).

Make contact with the Visitor Services Officer at the desk (Dinosaur Garden) or ticket counter (Sciencentre) and they will confirm details, discuss your itinerary and handle invoicing / payment details (if entering the Sciencentre). A Visitor Services Officer will welcome and greet your group upon arrival.

Cloak Room
Please do not bring school bags unless absolutely necessary. Lunches, small eskies and bags can be stored in the bag store trolleys located at the Dinosaur Garden and the Sciencentre entrance. A Visitor Services Officer will assist with your storage and retrieval.

Visitors with Disablities
Car spaces for visitors with disabilities are reserved on both levels of the car park, near the lift. For bus and taxi passengers there is easy access from Grey Street through the Dinosaur Garden. Wheelchairs are available from the Museum Cloakroom. Phone (07) 3840 7633 for more information.

Please advise if you have students with medical needs who require food or drink whilst inside the Museum.

Lunch and Refreshments
School groups are welcome to bring morning tea or lunch and eat in the Dinosaur Garden (under cover), near the front of the Sciencentre (grassed area near the water feature) or along the river bank. No food or drink is allowed to be consumed inside the Museum, except by visitors with specific medical needs.

Toilets
Toilets are available on arrival in the Dinosaur Garden and the outdoor grassed Plaza (between Queensland Art Gallery and Sciencentre entrance). During your visit, toilets are located in the Sciencentre, Level 2 and 4 and the Café.
