Discover ENERGEX Playasaurus Place

Before dinosaurs ruled the earth more than 300 million years ago, plants and tiny animals lived and died and eventually became the fossils that formed the coal, oil and gas we use today. This natural link between our prehistoric past and our energy use today becomes evident as you explore the space.

  • Reflect on the beginnings of life on this planet and how oxygen that is needed for life was created.
  • Discover that fossil fuel such as coal and gas, our main current electrical energy source, has origins older than the dinosaurs.
  • Explore our prehistoric environment, including life-sized dinosaurs, dinosaur eggs and hatchlings, dinosaur footprints, rocks and fossils, and some of the plants and animals that helped form coal.
  • Understand that scientific research into fossils and traces can uncover new information about our prehistoric past and the animals that inhabited that time.
  • Compare past, present and predicted future electricity generation and consumption, and understand that current consumption and non-renewable energy sources are not sustainable.
  • Think about the food you eat to power your body and reflect on the energy that is used for that food to reach your plate, especially in comparison to 50 years ago.
  • Imagine and support a sustainable future, by making choices that conserve energy and utilise renewable energy.
