Group work

Organising learners into small groups with a defined role for each group member may be one way to facilitate learning. This is one example of a grouping mechanism.

Example of Group Roles

Leader

  • organises and encourages other group members
  • keeps everyone on track

Reader

  • reads activity instructions and display information to other group members

Recorder

  • writes down group's ideas and responses

Timekeeper

  • makes sure group stays within time schedule

Collector

  • collects relevant information and resources
  • finds displays

Reporter

  • reports group's findings, experiences, ideas and responses to whole class
