Eastern Water Dragons in the urban landscape

The Eastern Water Dragon, Physignathus lesueurii, a common inhabitant of suburban waterways. Eastern Water Dragon, Physignathus lesueurii The Queensland Museum is collaborating in a research project with Celine Frere, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Queensland working on conservation and population genetics of animals, including marine mammals.

Her project looks at the impacts of urbanisation on native wildlife and the effects of habitat fragmentation on Eastern Water Dragons. We encourage you to complete the following short questionnaire about water dragon sightings that will assist with her research.

There is still a rich diversity of native wildlife living within the Brisbane suburbs. This study will provide information that will assist with the management of urban wildlife and, hopefully, contribute to its long-term survival and protection.

You can help us to do this by completing this survey. Please refer to the identification fact sheet (279 KB) pdf document icon to learn how to identify these dragons.
