Dinosaurs and Fossils

Years 3 - 7
Program led by Museum staff

How do we know that dinosaurs existed? Students become Palaeontologists and investigate the evidence through what fossils can tell us. Students discuss what is (and isn’t) a dinosaur and take a look closer to home, as we showcase some of Qld’s own dinosaur discoveries.

Students interact with objects from the Museum’s own collections and use role-play, discussions, comparisons and observations to investigate and understand the ancient world.

Inside your Museum

Years 3 - 7
Program led by Museum staff

What is a museum and what happens inside? Explore how and why museums collect artefacts and specimens. Investigate the roles of scientists, curators and conservators in collating and preserving Queensland’s social and natural history. Discover how museums preserve objects and how these objects and their stories are used in exhibitions and programs.

Students are introduced to themes via discussion and objects, then step into role as a scientist or curator and examine an object up close to investigate what, when, where, who. How will you share your ideas and stories?

Please allow time after the session for further Museum exploration.

Investigating Insects

Years 3 - 7
Program led by Museum staff

How can we tell if an animal is an insect? Is it number of legs, body parts, how they grow? Come with us on this insect adventure and be amazed at the diversity among insects and explore their life cycles. Discover how Museum scientists collect, study and preserve insects and view up close some amazing and beautiful insects from our collection. Share the job of our Museum scientists by investigating insect specimens up close and understanding why Museums collect and study insects.

Students engage in discussions and observations while exploring real objects and live specimens to develop an understanding of the natural world.

Indigenous Cultures - Learning from Objects

Years 3 - 7
Program led by Museum staff

Discover more about Queensland's two Indigenous Cultures by examining objects and ‘bringing them to life’. This program introduces the Dandiiri Maiwar exhibition, inviting further inquiry when exploring the stories and collections of the exhibition.

Students interact with a selection of recognisable artifacts and objects to investigate different resources and technologies used by Indigenous peoples, and to stimulate discussion about living culture and cultural diversity.

Each booking will schedule an exhibition visit to follow this facilitated program.
