Prep - year 3 school programs

Programs cover a range of topics including dinosaurs, fossils, insects, museums and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

All School Programs complement Queensland and Australian curriculum, with programs being either led by Museum staff or self guided.

You must make a booking to visit the Museum.

Museum Led School Programs

  • Facilitated by a Museum staff member
  • Cost $5 per student; accompanying adults are free
  • 30 - 45 mins in duration
  • Minimum booking 20 students
  • Offered Monday to Friday during Queensland School term

Self Guided Programs and Resources

  • Facilitated by school teachers and supervisors
  • Free
  • 30 - 45 mins duration is recommended
  • Facilitate exploration of an exhibition
  • Exploring in small supervised groups is recommended

Dinosaur World 

Years Prep - 2
Program led by Museum staff

Discover different types of dinosaurs as we explore and compare size, teeth and tails.  Stimulating imagery, objects and interactions make this a trip back in time to remember. Students can discover the ancient world of dinosaurs, while investigating Museum collections and objects with role-play, discussions and observations.

Years Prep - 3

What is a museum and what happens inside? Discover how objects can tell stories, hear about the people who work in a Museum and what they do.  This object rich program explores how and why museums collect, learn about and take care of 1000s of objects.

Students are invited to engage with, discover and explore the past, present and future by investigating Museum objects and props and through role-play, discussion, comparison and sharing stories.

InsectHands-on with a Stick Insect.s Up Close 

Years Prep - 3
Program led by Museum staff

Explore insects up close with real specimens, hands-on materials and live insects.  How can we tell if an animal is an insect? Is it number of legs, body parts, how they grow?

Share the job of our Museum scientists by investigating insect specimens up close and understanding how and why Museums collect and study insects.

Students engage in discussions and observations while exploring real objects and live specimens to develop an understanding of the natural world.

Explore Dandiiri Maiwar and the theme of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander celebrations. The trail provides some extra ideas, pathways and questions you and your students may like to explore.

Dandiiri Maiwar is a vibrant and living Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures Centre at Queensland Museum South Bank showcasing Queensland's Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islanders.
