Mottled Eastern Wishbone Spiders

Mottled Wishbone spider, Nemesiidae, Namea, female

Identification

Delicate spiders with brown, almost shiny head and mottled brown body with brown legs.

Diversity & distribution

Coastal North Queensland to northern New South Wales. Exclusively rainforest spiders.

Sixteen species of which 15 occur in Queensland. In some areas 2-3 species occur together, especially on mountain tops.

Burrow

Two burrow types. Open burrow, sometimes with leaves silked to the entrance and usually in banks. Some burrows are simply a silk-lined groove in the soil under a log or rock.

Bites

None recorded; the spiders do not seem aggressive when handled.
