Lynx spiders

Identification

Grey-brown to brightly coloured often with multicoloured stripes on body. Spindly legs with erect spines. Tend to jump.
 

Distribution

Australia wide, many species. Habitat: open forest, bushland, mangroves but rare in rainforest and deserts; common in household gardens.

Web

Only builds egg sac at the folded tips of grasses.

Bite

Mild pain.

Notes

Tend to spring upon prey (hence common name).

Main prey: grasshoppers, bugs, and other insects and spiders.
