Identification
Very long, fine hair-like legs with body smaller than pea. Colour: Generally dark. Length: Including legs about 15cm.
Distribution
Introduced from Europe, now widespread throughout Australia.
Found around houses; related species occur in rainforest and bush.
Web
Messy disordered tangle.
Bite
One known bite from this species has proven to be harmless. Incorrectly attributed with toxic venom; venom is known to be harmless to humans.
Notes
Main prey: insects and other spiders. It is a highly effective predator on other spiders including Redbacks and large Grey Huntsman (Holconia immanis).
Bounces web when disturbed.
Breeds throughout they year.
