Daddy-long-legs spiders

Family Pholcidae

These spiders with very long legs often build webs in the corners of houses.

A very common introduced species, Pholcus phalangiodes, has a terrible and undeserved reputation for dangerous venom. The bite of Daddy-long-legs spiders is harmless.

Europeans give the name Daddy-long-legs to an arachnid that has no waist, a harvestman or opilione.

Queensland Museum's Find out about... is proudly supported by the Thyne Reid Foundation and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.
