File Snakes - Acrochordidae

File snakes are totally aquatic fish-eaters.

They have loose, baggy skin covered with tiny, rasp-like scales.

Two species are found in Queensland; one lives in freshwater (Acrochordus arafurae), the other in coastal, mangrove- lined habitats.

File snakes produce live young and breed infrequently.

Queensland Museum's Find out about... is proudly supported by the Thyne Reid Foundation and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.
