Preserving insects

Insects are easily collected and preserved as pinned specimens. In this form they make an attractive permanent display.

The basic techniques of pinning, spreading the wings and drying of insect specimens are quite simple and require little in the way of apparatus.

Further information on collecting and preserving insects is found in the excellent publication “Collecting, Preserving and Classifying Insects” available from the Queensland Museum shop.

Queensland Museum's Find out about... is proudly supported by the Thyne Reid Foundation and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.
