Pink-clawed Hermit

Dardanus pedunculatus

Features

Short thick eyestalks with distinctive red and white banding; large pink claws with short spines.

Notes

Reefs and seagrass beds; shallow sublittoral to 27 m; two species of sea anemones, Calliactis polypus (shown) and Verrillactis paguri live commensally on the shells. Qld and NSW, widespread Indo-west Pacific Oceans.
