Features

Royal Barnacle, Austromegabalanus nigrescens Tall steep-sided, 6 shell plates, white to pale blue or green; bright blue mantle visible insider aperture. Largest barnacle in Moreton Bay region, to about 30 mm across and 40-60 mm high.

Notes

Common on rocks on exposed rocky headlands, lower tidal zone down to 9 m depth. Indigenous, southern Australia north to Queensland.
