Acrobates pygmaeus Lonchura castaneothorax Dendrelaphis punctulatus Litoria gracilenta Collections of vertebrates from Australia and Papua New Guinea are heavily utilised resources, providing the source for information to scientists, environmentalists, planners and managers. These consist of:

  • over 28,000 amphibians, 45,000 reptiles, 31,000 birds and 20,000 mammals;
  • over 2,900 type specimens;
  • rare and threatened species, including specimens of extinct species and declining frogs becoming especially important in recent years;
  • 99% of the collections are databased.
